This is the second podcast in our series on the Fruit of the Spirit found in Galatians 5:22-23. Our focus for this study is the workings of the Spirit and comes from Romans 8:1-28 with the following key points. I also touched on topics related to our adoption into the Kingdom using my own adoption as an example as well as what it means for the Spirit to pray on our behalf which are not detailed below.
*Romans 8:6 - Paul speaks hear about being carnally minded which means pertaining to the flesh. He shares that this way of thinking is death to us but to think on spiritual things (or by letting the Spirit guide us) we can find life and peace. The earliest account recorded of being carnally minded is found in Genesis 3:1-7 in which Adam and Eve eat of the fruit of the tree that was forbidden by God. Satan came in and appealed to Eve's need of wanting more...more knowledge, more understanding...just to be more like God. The flesh in each of us just wants more and to live your life pursuing just those things instead of God is to be carnally minded. Ultimately, Adam and Eve were banned from the garden.
*Romans 8:16-17 - This scripture explains that the Spirit shows God and others around us that we are believers who follow Christ and teachings. This then gives us a magnificent promise that we are the sons of God! The scripture goes on to say that we heirs and joint-heirs with Christ. This means we have a promise of eternal life with God in that city where there is no night. Revelation 21:1-7 gives us a glimpse of what that will be like.
*Romans 8:24 - This scripture lets us know we cannot hope for what we have seen. When I think of the word hope, it always takes me to Hebrews 11:1 on the subject of faith. Hope means to expect with confidence and we have to have a full trust in God to expect with confidence that His promises in the scriptures will come to pass.
*Romans 8:28 - This podcast was wrapped up with this final verse that says all things work to the good. This is a reminder to us that no matter what path we are on or how bad things seem in our mind, God is always there to use them for our good. We may not see it now because God's timing is not our timing. Let the Spirit guide you and God will work all things out for you.
