Other Scriptures Referenced

*John 14:12-26 - Jesus speaks to his disciples and begins to explain to them that He will leave them but will not leave them alone. He will send back a Comforter which is the Holy Spirit to dwell in them. Since they have walked with Jesus, they will be able to recognize the Spirit where the world will not.

*John 16:5-11 - Jesus goes on to assure the disciples that He must go away. This is the only way the Spirit will be able to return and walk with them for all generations.

*Acts 1:4-8 - Jesus is visiting the disciples before ascending to Heaven to be with the Father and is instructing them that they will receive a promise...that promise is the gift of the Holy Spirit. Once they have received the indwelling of the Spirit they will testify of Jesus to all the land and to the uttermost parts of the earth.

*Acts 2:38-39 - After the filling of the Holy Spirit, Peter then speaks to the crowds that have gathered and tells them that this is a fulfillment of the prophecy by Joel. He then explains in these two verses that this same infilling is a gift from God that is available to each and every person. All they (and you) must do is to put your faith in Jesus that he can and will forgive you of your sins when you repent and be baptized to receive this gift. This is a promise of God.
